Experience in a legal or legal environment within an international organization is desirable. Experience in drafting and reviewing legal instruments is desirable. Experience in preparing legal opinions and providing advice to superiors is desirable. Experience in preparing written pleadings for a court is desirable. The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (hereinafter referred to as “UN-Habitat”), established by the General Assembly of the United Nations in its resolution 32/162 of 19 December 1977 and transformed into a programme by General Assembly resolution 56/206 of 21 December 2001, with its headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya. The Legal Department is responsible for ensuring that UN-Habitat activities are carried out in accordance with applicable regulatory frameworks and relevant United Nations law by providing legal advice and assistance and ensuring due diligence and quality assurance on various issues related to UN-Habitat activities in order to reduce exposure to legal claims. Disputes and responsibilities vis-à-vis UN-Habitat, both internal and external, as well as representation of the rights, positions and interests of UN-Habitat in contractual disputes or before the various internal administrative tribunals. The incumbent reports to the Chief of the Legal Unit.
